Kyoto Imperial Palace Open for Public

Kyoto Imperial Palace Open for Public

Kyoto Gosho is an imperial palace located in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture.

The Kyoto Imperial Palace is the latest of the imperial palaces built at or near its site in the north-eastern part of the old capital of Heiankyo after the abandonment of the larger original Heian Palace that was located to the west of the current palace during the Heian Period.

The Palace lost much of its function at the time of the Meiji Restoration, when the capital functions were moved to Tokyo in 1869.
However, the Taisho and Showa Emperors still had their coronation ceremonies at the palace.

Uwajima Bullfighting Convention, Uwajima City, Ehime Pref.

Uwajima Bullfighting Convention, Uwajima City, Ehime Pref.

26th October, 2014 | Uwajima City, Ehime Pref.

There is oral communication that the fishermen of Fukuura rescued the Netherlands ship which was drifting about Uwakai about the origin of bullfighting in the second half of the 17th century, and two cows presented as the greeting started by having fought by chance,
the angle of a cow is automatically compared in a field from a farmer building the strong Japanese beef for farming at the Kamakura period, and there is also an opinion of having made this into amusement.

If bullfighting carries out from it being the spontaneous thing to depend on the combative instinct of a cow, you should think that the origin started with introduction of the cow for farming.

Kazuizawa Resorts Marathon

October 26, 2014 | Karuizawa, Nagano

Karuizawa is an upmarket mountain resort at the foot of the active volcano Mount Asama in Nagano Prefecture. It was first "discovered" and promoted as a mountain resort by Western residents of Japan in the late 1800s.

Nowadays, many wealthy urbanites own a second home in Karuizawa. Located at an altitude of roughly 1000 meters, the mountain resort provides a pleasant escape from the summer heat. Thanks to the Nagano Shinkansen (opened in 1998), it now takes little more than an hour to reach Karuizawa from central Tokyo.
Various outdoor activities, such as tennis, hiking, cycling, golfing in summer and skiing and skating in winter can be enjoyed in Karuizawa, and there are ample of shopping opportunities. Karuizawa is located along Japan's Romantic Road.

Ages of SARASA, at Fukuoka Art Museum

Ages of SARASA, at Fukuoka Art Museum

11th October - 24th November, 2014 | Fukuoka Art Museum

Thousands of years ago, a technique was developed on the Indian subcontinent of using madder to produce colors that were both brilliant and color-fast.
Madder is a difficult dyestuff to use, yet it made possible the production of cotton — a fabric with many very useful functions — that was decorated in vivid and colorful ways.

Such cotton cloth, presenting luxuriant motifs that exhibited both mordant-dyed and resist-dyed patterns, was called sarasa.

So successful and popular was sarasa that it was eventually traded all over the world.

Masterpieces of Kōsan-ji Temple: Commemorating the Restoration of the National Treasure Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Humans, at Kyoto National Museum

7th October - 24th November, 2014 | Kyoto National Museum

Among the most beloved and recognizable of all Japanese artworks is the delightful four-volume set Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Humans (Chōjū giga), owned by the temple of Kōsan-ji (also known as Kōzan-ji).

This National Treasure--frequently referenced as being the first example of manga (Japanese comics)--underwent extensive conservation between 2009 and 2013 under the auspices of the Asahi Shimbun Foundation.

In addition to refreshing and stabilizing the scrolls, this conservation process revealed significant new information about the third scroll: the second half of the scroll in its existing form was originally mounted on the back of the first half of the scroll.
The current arrangement in which the first half and second half are mounted side by side is the result of a later remounting.
