Hokkai Heso Matsuri (bellybutton festival), Furano City, Hokkaido

28th - 29th July, 2016 | Furano City, Hokkaido
In July 1969, the Furano residents' charter was enacted. A line of the charter stated that "we, the residents of Furano, stand at the center point of Hokkaido".
Everything has a center. The center of the human body is the bellybutton.
So, the center point of Hokkaido can be called Hokkaido's bellybutton.
We wondered if there might be some way to embody this idea in folk entertainment, and link it to development of Furano's tourism and commerce…   (*reference: Hokkai Heso Matsuri Committee)

Uwajima Bullfighting Convention, Uwajima City, Ehime Pref.

Uwajima Bullfighting Convention, Uwajima City, Ehime Pref.

24th July, 2016 | Uwajima City, Ehime Pref.
There is oral communication that the fishermen of Fukuura rescued the Netherlands ship which was drifting about Uwakai about the origin of bullfighting in the second half of the 17th century, and two cows presented as the greeting started by having fought by chance, the angle of a cow is automatically compared in a field from a farmer building the strong Japanese beef for farming at the Kamakura period, and there is also an opinion of having made this into amusement.

If bullfighting carries out from it being the spontaneous thing to depend on the combative instinct of a cow, you should think that the origin started with introduction of the cow for farming.

Daimyo's Retinue Festival, Katsuura City, Chiba

Daimyo's Retinue Festival, Katsuura City, Chiba

23rd July, 2016 | Ubara, Katsuura City, Chiba Pref.
The Daimyo Gyoretsu is a parade in Japan. It commemorates the annual journey of the daimyo, or feudal lord, to Edo (present-day Tokyo) during the Tokugawa period (1600-1868).
In order to suppress the possibility of unrest, the Edo shogun, or supreme military ruler, would compel the daimyo from all over Japan to make periodic visits to the capital city.
Because the daimyo had to be accompanied by a large entourage, these visits were hugely expensive, leaving them with little money left over for plotting a revolution.
